Research Areas

Stock enhancement, aquaculture, fisheries biology, marine ecology, hatchery reform, estuarine ecology, essential fish habitat, predator-prey interactions

Research Emphasis

My research focuses on the development of marine finfish stock enhancement programs, specifically winter flounder in the Northeast. Conditioning of hatchery-reared fish and defining optimal release strategies are of particular interest to me. In addition to rearing winter flounder for enhancement, I also conduct research on the cultivation of other potential aquaculture species as well as on the development of alternative ingredients in fish feeds. Other projects I work on involve cooperative research with the recreational and commercial fishing industries to study movements, distribution, and essential fish habitat of important finfish species in the Gulf of Maine.
